Iraq is seeking broader cooperation with America

BAGHDAD, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Abdel Abdulmahdi on Tuesday expressed keenness on cementing economic cooperation with the United States of America.
A government statement said the premier, during a meeting with the visiting US Secretary of energy Rick Perry, noted necessity of elevating the Iraq-American relations to higher level in all sectors.
Prime minister Abdulmahdi singled out in particular the need to expand the cooperation with Washington in the fields of energy, oil and the economy.
Iraq's stability, following annihilation of the so-called Islamic State, is lucrative for foreign companies to invest in the country.
Perry, accompanied by a broad delegation of 50 members including leading officials and businessmen, is currently visiting Iraq.
Iraq, which suffers from power shortage, has inked a memo with General Electric to overhaul the national electricity network. (end) ah.rk
