EP calls for stricter control on EU arms exports


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- The European Parliament Wednesday adopted a resolution saying EU member states systematic fail to apply EU common rules on arms export control.
The resolution approved by 427 votes to 150 called for a mechanism to enforce sanctions on EU members that break the rules.
The EP expressed shock "at the amount of EU-made weapons and ammunition found in the hands of Da'esh, in Syria and Iraq".
Under the EU common rules, member states must ensure that the export licenses are not diverted to undesirable end-users.
However, some EU members, such as Bulgaria and Romania, are failing to apply this provision effectively, it noted. (end) nk.mt
