Iraqi Kirkuk to receive UN aid for landmark collapse risk

(MENAFN) Iraq is to receive aid from the UN for the return of a landmark citadel and Ottoman barracks in Kirkuk province.

The landmarks which are on the verge of collapse were toured by UN special envoy for Iraq Alice Walpole alongside a team, as confirmed the UN's Assistance Mission for Iraq.

The barracks, the UN statement explained, are at the risk of collapse as they were discovered to be in a vulnerable condition.

The statement added that the citadel is under the threat to have its 18 meter-long walls collapse.

The barracks have been constructed in 1863 for the Ottoman Army, while the citadel was established in 884 BC.
