Mattis, Qatari counterpart reaffirm strategic security partnership


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Nov 13 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of Defense James Mattis met Tuesday with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Dr. Khalid Al-Attiyah to "reaffirm the strategic security partnership" between the two countries, the Pentagon announced.
The Pentagon said in a statement that Mattis and his Qatari counterpart discussed a broad range of defense issues, including "Qatari support to the NATO mission in Afghanistan and improvements to Al Udeid Air Base".
"Secretary Mattis thanked the entire delegation for Qatar's continued hospitality in hosting US forces in the Gulf region and affirmed our commitment to ongoing security cooperation," the statement added. (end) si.ibi
