Iranian expert: Dependence on oil income should be reduced

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Oil sale is one of the most effective components in the Iranian economy, expert in oil and energy Mohammad Ali Khatibi said in an interview with Khabar Online website.

But this is not the only factor, he added.

He said that there are other factors that may be more important than oil sanctions.

Ali Khatibi added that over the last 40 years, the officials repeatedly talked about the necessity of ending oil dependence.

However, if this dependence was 2 percent each year, there would be a 80 percent drop in dependence on oil revenues, he said.

Ali Khatibi added that the dependency on oil revenues reached 30 percent before the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

If this process continued, dependency on oil revenues would decline, he added.

He said that after the nuclear deal, the dependence has increased again.

This issue led the US to use sanctions against Iran, Ali Khatibi added.
