Palestine hails UN vote on G77 chairmanship

(MENAFN) Palestine's Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki hailed on Wednesday a vote by the UN General Assembly to grant Palestinians the capability to act as the chair of the Group of 77 (G77).

The G77 aims to support the economic interests of its member-states as well as developing their collective negotiating ability at UN forums.

Palestine is to "strive to unite global efforts - and mobilize regional and international organizations - with a view to serving humanity," the Palestinian foreign minister stated.

The vote signified "a challenge that will be turned into an opportunity for the benefit of group members and the entire world," the foreign minister stressed.

Palestine "is ready to engage with good intentions with all countries and groups... to discuss all humanitarian issues of concern to societies and peoples," al-Maliki noted.

"We are capable of advancing and strengthening the UN agenda with Palestinian expertise... in the environmental, developmental and economic fields," he further added.
