QR20bn worth projects to develop Doha internal roads next year

DOHA: The Minister of Municipality and Environment H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi revealed yesterday that construction projects worth about QR20bn are to be implemented next year as part of the internal road development programme.

These projects include reconstruction and rebuilding of internal roads in Doha and around, development of pavements, walk-ways and cycling-path and other related facilities.

'After having completed the first phase of highways and other road development programme, now we have internal roads in Doha and its neighbourhoods which are now being developed and rebuilt. This is one of the areas where we are concentrating now. It will be providing good opportunities which are not only be limited to roads but also other works all around it, such as the development of pavements, walkways, cycling-path and other, Minister Al Rumaihi told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the opening day of the The Big 5 Qatar.

The Minister added: 'Doha and the Corniche, new cities like Lusail City, Cultural Village and all around Doha will have many more projects than the ones we have finished. The combined value of projects will be about QR20bn. The Minister of Municipality and Environment officially inaugurated the three-day expo organised by dmg Events Doha, at the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center (DECC).

Commenting about the event, Al Rumaihi said that Qatar is very keen to host such exhibitions, which are concerned with building products and materials, covering the needs of the local market and enhancing trade exchange.

He took a long tour of the expo during which he was briefed on many of the new national industries as well as about products from outside Qatar which provide many vital products for the local market, especially in construction field and major projects. He noted that he felt a balance between the national products and others during this event, and expressed his happiness to see this level of national industries along that of foreign industries.

He also expressed the hope that this event will continue its momentum year after year, especially as projects continue in Qatar, while infrastructure continues to grow, adding that with the 2022 FIFA World Cup projects which are nearing complete, many projects are still rebuilding the infrastructure in many areas within the city of Doha itself.

In the exhibition, 240 companies from 21 countries, including China, India, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Kuwait, and Oman, are showcasing the latest building solutions as well as live demonstrations of major construction products and more than 40 free workshops.

In addition, the exhibition is also offering unique educational activities to provide visitors with the latest information on the latest trends, tools and techniques in the field of construction.

The agenda of a workshop on continuing professional development includes various topics related to building and smart and sustainable cities, as well as the series of business women in construction.

The first edition of the show, which will conclude on September 26, is being held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani.
