Calvert MMA Academy asserts that they follow the promotion system Grandmaster Helio Gracie established at his academy in Rio de Janeiro which required a combination of a minimum number of classes, time in rank, and demonstration of technical proficiency on the mats in order to be promoted to the next level. Calvert MMA Academy's Lineage BJJ program also requires additional functional testing for belt promotion as a means of protecting the legacy of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
