Malfunction in IP address system leaves thousands in Latvia without Internet

(MENAFN) A malfunction in the IP address system of Latvia's leading Internet services provider Lattelecom left thousands of subscribers without Internet on Saturday night.

IT experts were able to locate the problem and resolve it by the early hours of Sunday as Lattelecom gradually resumed its services, which also include web-based interactive television.

Lattelecom representatives said in a statement that shutdowns of this scale cause a extended system overload and that it therefore took several hours to renew the services to all clients.

Lattelecom said in the statement: "Technical data about the system's operation were recorded during the disruption so they can be analyzed and solutions developed to prevent such incidents from happening in the future."
