Jordan- King meets Dutch business leaders, major companies representatives

The Hague, Mar.21 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II met, in the presence of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands in The Hague on Wednesday, with a group of business leaders and CEOs of major companies in the Netherlands, for a discussion on Jordan's attractive investment environment and prospects for closer economic cooperation.

During the meeting held at the headquarters of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers, King Abdullah stressed the importance of expanding and diversifying trade between Jordan and the Netherlands.

The King noted that the agreements, signed by the two countries during his visit, reflect their desire to upgrade economic relations to higher levels.

His Majesty noted Jordan's efforts to improve the business environment and attract investments. He indicated that Jordan seeks to benefit from the Dutch expertise and achievements in agriculture, water and energy management and energy storage solutions.

During the meeting, King Abdullah underlined that Jordan is continuing a policy of economic openness to major economies in the world and establishing real partnerships with the private sector, which is a strategic partner in the process of development, developing the national economy and creating jobs.

The meeting discussed investment opportunities offered by the Jordanian economy in many vital sectors, such as renewable energy, infrastructure and transport, as well as opportunities to benefit from the Kingdom's strategic location and free trade agreements signed with many countries.

The possibility of taking advantage of opportunities and logistics provided by the southern port of Aqaba, which is a regional center for the entry of commodities into international markets, especially in Africa, was also explored.

In this context, His Majesty the King pointed out that Jordan is pursuing an economic policy that is open to the world and seeks to attract foreign investment to contribute to enhancing development gains in different regions, noting that many big companies have succeeded in Jordan and benefited from investment advantages, and many of them have taken the Kingdom as an export hub and regional headquarters for their businesses.

In turn, Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Sigrid Kaag, said the Dutch government and private sector will prepare an action plan and a roadmap in partnership with their Jordanian counterparts, in order to improve the level of economic cooperation between the two countries and identify investment opportunities available in a number of vital sectors provided by the Jordanian economy.

She added that the Jordanian and Dutch sides discussed areas of cooperation in the sectors of energy, water and agriculture, and the possibility of increasing added-value Jordanian exports, especially garments, to European markets.

She said there are promising opportunities to expand economic cooperation between the two countries, adding that Jordan is one of the priority countries for the Netherlands.

A number of business leaders and representatives of Dutch companies expressed their desire to invest in Jordan and benefit from its strategic position as a gateway to regional and global markets.

They also said they want to work with the private sector in Jordan to build partnerships and implement investment projects in many vital sectors.

On the sidelines of His Majesty's visit to the Netherlands, a number of Jordanian businessmen and women held meetings with their Dutch counterparts, during which they discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between them in the agriculture and garment industries.
