GENEVA, 3rd March, 2018 (WAM) -- The president of the Arab Initiative for Education and Development, Dr. Wissam Basendwa, has said that the three-year Yemeni crisis has inflicted an economic and humanitarian tragedy, as the number of Yemeni citizens in need of humanitarian assistance has increased to 22.2 million people, equivalent to 85 percent of the country's population, the Saudi Press Agency, SPA, has reported.
Her remarks came during a seminar on the humanitarian and political situation in Yemen held on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council 37th session.
Dr. Basendwa, who is also a member of the Yemeni Group for Monitoring Human Rights Violations, highlighted the relief and humanitarian aid provided by a number of countries, particularly the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. She referred to the comprehensive humanitarian plan announced by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which includes eleven humanitarian initiatives to address the humanitarian situation in Yemen, the agency concluded.
