UAE- Kuwait, UNICEF sign agreements for Syrian refugees' education

KUWAIT, 29th May, 2017 (WAM) -- Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, KFAS, and UNICEF, have signed two agreements worth US$6 millions to provide education for Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Jordan, the Saudi News Agency has said.

In a press statement, KFAS Director-General, Adnan Shihab-Eldin, said that the agreements are part of Kuwait's pledge to aid Syrian refugees with US$300 millions during the London Donors Conference for Syria in 2016. The pledge was made by His Highness the Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, KFAS Chairman. KFAS' contribution to the two agreements is US$50 million, he added.

Mr. Eldin noted that the first agreement, signed in Dubai last March, involves providing US$ 3 million for education and profession training for about 4,500 Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

The second was signed on May 17th and involves US$ 3 millions for about 4,230 Syrians in Jordan, he added.
