Dubai residents can now find the Makani number plates on their buildings in the emirate.

The Dubai Municipality has announced the start of the final phase of the smart addressing system - fixing Makani plates with geo-coordinates on the buildings.

Makani smart addressing system is part of the official addressing system in Dubai and will be used by all government organisations including police ambulance civil defence and companies.

To be carried out in phases the initial implementation of the project will cover communities that don't have official addresses as yet. The total number of plates will reach 130000 when the project will be concluded before June 2016 the civic body said in a media statement.

Speaking to Khaleej Times the Director of Geographical Information System Department Abdul Hakim Malik said the plate fixing project began earlier this month in communities without proper street addressing system. "We have already finished fixing the plates in areas like Al Khawaneej Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City and we are now going to Oud Al Muteena International City and other areas phase by phase" he said.

Each venue will be allotted a unique 10 digit code that comes with a QR code that can be scanned with any smart device via the Makani app or other location-based solution. Once scanned the Makani app will provide the user with key information on the location being searched which includes the province building street number and other relevant details.

He said a professional company has been contracted to fix the plates for the municipality.

"You will now see cars and people carrying the logo of Makani doing the rounds in the city. Please cooperate with them to fix the plates on your buildings" the official said.
