Arab world cautiously welcomes Iran nuke deal

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Saudi Arabia, along with a number of other Arab countries, declared support for Tuesday's deal in Vienna between the P5+1 group of nations and Iran over the latter's nuclear energy program.

A Saudi official confirmed to the state-run SPA news agency that the kingdom backed the landmark agreement, which, the official noted, called for "the strict and constant inspection of all [Iranian nuclear] sites, including military ones, as well as mechanism for rapidly re-imposing [economic] sanctions in the event Iran violates the terms of the deal."

Qatar's Foreign Ministry likewise welcomed the deal, describing it as an "important step" toward establishing "regional peace and stability," according to a Tuesday statement published by the Qatar News Agency.

Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, for his part, expressed hope the agreement would "bolster security and peace in the region," according to Kuwait's official news agency.

Jordanian Media Minister Mohamed al-Momani, meanwhile, said his country was still awaiting details of the agreement, but went on to stress Jordan's support for any move that "serves to strengthen peace and regional security."

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, for his part, voiced hope that the deal would serve to "avert wars and conflicts," while also stressing the need for "stepped-up cooperation in the fight against terrorism, especially against [militant group] Daesh."

Negotiations over Iran's nuclear energy program were supported by the UN Security Council and the P5+1 group of nations, which includes Russia, China, the U.S., France, Germany and the U.K.

Under the deal's terms, Iran € which insists it does not want a nuclear weapons arsenal € will be recognized by the UN as having a peaceful nuclear program, including a complete uranium enrichment cycle.
