Yemeni gov't brokers ceasefire restoration in N. Omran

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A government-brokered ceasefire has been restored between sides involved in the violence in Yemen's northern Omran province, it was announced on Sunday. The ceasefire accord between the army's 310 Brigade backed by local militias and Houthi rebels was agreed under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence, and calls for "restraint, conciliation and acceptance" between the sides, according to the presidential committee tasked with the affair. The ceasefire comes just over two weeks after an earlier ceasefire had been breached between the warring sides. The presidential committee has been tasked with monitoring all sides involved in the fighting which occurred in and around the province, and providing a report on the outbreak of the situation up until the present day. A separate neutral committee, "that has no sectarian or ethnic partisan loyalties," will be assessing damage to the province and nearby areas. The deal will also ensure that a major road linking the province with the capital Sanaa is reopened, administered by security forces in no more than three days. Those killed in the fighting will be considered martyrs and their families will be compensated, the deal also stipulates.
