(MENAFN- Arab Times) Five Sudanese expatriates used Al- Seyassah newspaper as avenue to reach out to the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Subaih, urging the minister to intervene to end to their suffering
The workers have been exposed to untold hardship after the company that recruited them to work in Kuwait violated their rights, reports Al-Seyassah daily. In their petition, the workers said they were supposed to work eight hours per day as security guards for a renowned security company on KD 100 salary, but they were surprised when the company changed the salary to KD70 after arriving in Kuwait
They noted the number of hours became unstable and was extended to 20 hours in some cases, with peanuts as overtime. They complained about serious maltreatment by the company to the extent that procedures for their visas dragged on for over six months
They lamented the company deducted fees for health insurance and residence visa, but many of them did not have access to medical treatment since they were not registered for health insurance. In the end, they had to approach some compatriots here in Kuwait to receive medical treatment in private hospitals. The workers were 57 in number, of which the company sacked five because they demanded their unpaid salaries. The workers urged the concerned officials to investigate their plight and protect their rights and dignity
