German Chancellor Merkel condemns food bank bar on foreigners

(MENAFN) Germany Chancellor Angela Markel has condemned a block on foreigners from being provided with free food, a resolution that was made by a top food bank.

However, the charity Essener Tafel described it as a short-term limitation that is needed as a result of 75 percent consumption of the food bank from foreigners over the past years.

Criticizing the latest requirement of Essener Tafel that entails guests to present a German passport so as to be granted food, the German Chancellor stated "one shouldn't run services on the basis of such categorisations. That's not good."

She continued "but it also shows the amount of pressure there is, and how many people are needy. That's why I hope they can find good solutions which do not exclude groups."
