Op Sindoor A Defining Moment: Murmu

Srinagar- President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said the success of Operation Sindoor was a“defining moment” in India's counter terror and deterrence strategy, adding that the world had taken note of both the country's military capability and its“moral clarity to act firmly, yet responsibly” in the pursuit of peace.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the third edition of the Chanakya Defence Dialogue in New Delhi, she said India's approach, guided by the civilisational ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, shows that“strategic autonomy can coexist with global responsibility”. She added that India seeks peace but is fully prepared to protect its borders and citizens“with strength and conviction”.

Murmu praised the armed forces for their professionalism and patriotism, saying they had shown“remarkable adaptability and resolve” during conventional, counter insurgency and humanitarian challenges.

Recalling Operation Sindoor, the President said the action taken in May after the Pahalgam attack marked a turning point.“The world took note not only of India's military capability but of India's moral clarity to act firmly, yet responsibly in the pursuit of peace,” she said. India launched the operation on May 7, targeting multiple terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. The exchanges ended on May 10 after both sides reached an understanding.

Murmu said the armed forces continue to play an important role in national development by contributing to connectivity, tourism, education and infrastructure in border areas. She also noted the rapid changes in global geopolitics driven by technology, shifting alliances and new domains like cyber, space and information warfare.
