Hopes Diminish For Finding Survivors From Midair Collision In Washington

WASHINGTON, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- Washington Fire and emergency medical service (EMS) chief John A. Donnelly said it was unlikely for rescuers to find survivors from the last night collision between a plane and a military helicopter over Potomac in Washington DC.
"We are now at the point where we are switching from rescue to recovery operation," he told reporters on Thursday.
There are not believed to be any survivors, he affirmed, adding that emergency authorities have switched to "recovery effort."
An American airlines jet carrying 64 people and an army Black Hawk with three soldiers on board collided near Reagan National Airport. At least 28 bodies have been found so far. (end)
