(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced on Tuesday that it had transferred and installed equipment in the Syrian buffer zone to help soldiers endure harsh winter conditions. The army explained that the logistical effort was aimed at equipping troops to withstand extreme weather, with infrastructure tailored for the region's tough climate.
According to a post on the X platform, the army set up temporary structures with added insulation, heating systems, generators, and water heaters. Medical facilities were also established to treat cold-related injuries, along with kitchens and dining areas to provide hot meals to soldiers. Additionally, thousands of winter supplies, including heating bags, raincoats, and winter boots, were distributed to troops in the area, with a focus on snow-specific gear.
Israel’s actions in the Syrian buffer zone violate the 1974 separation of forces agreement. Following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime, Israel seized control of the area on December 9, 2023. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz later ordered soldiers to prepare for a prolonged stay in the region throughout the winter, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated the importance of supporting troops in these challenging conditions.
