Canada welcomes fall of Assad regime, advocates for inclusive Syria

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Canada expressed its support for the fall of the Assad regime, highlighting the opportunity to reconstruct a Syria that is inclusive of all its people.

"Canada embraces the end of the Assad Regime in Syria, which has caused decades of suffering to its citizens. This marks a pivotal moment for the Syrian population, who have faced unimaginable hardship under the leadership of Bashar al-Assad and his father, Hafez al-Assad," stated the Foreign Ministry.

The statement underscored "the Assad family's oppressive hold on authority" in Syria, reminding of the thousands of Syrians killed and the millions displaced through force.

"As Syria closes this dark chapter, the forthcoming days, months, and years will be crucial. We hope that the Syrian people will come together to build a unified and lasting future, one that strengthens all communities and sets the stage for long-term peace and prosperity," the statement continued.

Describing this moment as "an opportunity to reconstruct a Syria where every citizen, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background, can live with dignity," Canada reaffirmed its dedication to Syria and its citizens.

The statement also called on all parties to engage in "an inclusive political process under the United Nations framework," aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in Syria.
