(MENAFN) Russian Leader Vladimir Putin on Wednesday criticized the United States for its “aggressive” actions in the Middle East.
During an investment conference hosted by Russia's second-largest bank, VTB, Putin emphasized that the creation of new logistics routes is an “inevitable” consequence of economic and trade growth, as well as geopolitical risks.
To support his point, he referred to the Suez Canal, highlighting a decline in the volume of cargo passing through it—a trend he described as “regrettable” for Russia.
“This is, of course, primarily due to geopolitical risks, due to the fact that the US is actively and quite aggressively acting in the Middle East,” he said, adding that this behavior provokes reactions from “resistance forces” in the region.
Putin further noted that both the economy and logistics networks are facing challenges, leading many shipping companies to reroute their vessels around Africa.
He also addressed remarks made by US President-elect Donald Trump over the weekend regarding a proposed 100 percent tariff on BRICS countries that seek to distance themselves from the US dollar in global trade. Putin remarked that “certain changes” have taken place in both the global and American economies over the last four years.
