China limits shipments of major chipmaking mechanisms to United States

(MENAFN) Beijing stated on Tuesday that it would ban shipments to the United States of some major components in creating semiconductors, following Washington declared limitations aiming China's capability to develop enhanced chips.

Some of the materials restricted from shipping include metals gallium, antimony as well as germanium, Beijing's commerce ministry stated in a statement that quoted "national security" claims.

Shipments of graphite, which is also considered a major component, is also going to be under "stricter reviews of end-users and end-uses", the ministry noted.

"To safeguard national security interests and fulfil international obligations such as non-proliferation, China has decided to strengthen export controls on relevant dual-use items to the United States," Beijing added.
