Azerbaijan's National Strategy On Prevention Of Zoonotic Diseases Presented Within COP29

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. The world is now clearly showing phenomena causing serious harm to the health of people and other living beings, as well as to the environment, Deputy Chairwoman of the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan Zakiya Mustafayeva said at the "One Health Conference" held within the framework of COP29, Trend reports.

She pointed out that environmental pollution and shifting climatic conditions can open a can of worms, leading to repercussions that could put human and animal health in a tight spot, paving the way for new infectious diseases to rear their ugly heads.

“Coordinated actions are being carried out at the international level to manage the current situation. Of particular relevance in this area is the concept of“One Health” put forward by international organizations.

“One Health” is a holistic approach aimed at achieving optimal levels of human, animal, and ecosystem health and achieving a sustainable balance between them. This concept is very relevant in the areas of food and water safety, nutrition, zoonotic disease control, pollution management, and antimicrobial resistance.

For the productive implementation of the One Health approach both nationally and internationally, the interaction of different sectors such as public health, environmental protection, agriculture, and food safety is one of the important conditions for achieving the set objectives, including the anticipation and prevention of threats that may arise to humans, animals, and the environment. Therefore, the protection of public health in our country is considered a task of every organization that plays a role in this field.

For example, under international practice in our country, to detect zoonotic epidemics in time and take flexible response measures, the relevant bodies carry out joint activities. To create flexible mechanisms for early detection of zoonotic diseases, crisis management, the formation of various methods of control, and the introduction of a single platform for information exchange by relevant bodies with the support of international experts, a draft National Strategy has been developed and will be presented today.

Since in the era of globalization in which we live, human, animal, and environmental health depend on each other, we should jointly solve problems in these areas with a cooperative approach,” Mustafayeva added.
