Session On Efforts To Safeguard Health And Food Security Kicks Off At COP29 Parliamentary Meeting

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 17. A session titled
"Efforts to safeguard health and food security in the face of a
changing climate" has begun in Baku as part of the Parliamentary
Meeting held alongside COP29, Trend reports.
The event is jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union
(IPU) and Azerbaijani Parliament.
The session will focus on the effects of climate change on human
health, with particular attention to the challenges posed by food
insecurity.
Participants will discuss how parliaments can adopt
comprehensive and collaborative approaches to address issues
related to health and climate.
The agenda also includes exploring strategies to reduce losses
in the agricultural and fisheries sectors, which are significant
contributors to food insecurity and malnutrition.
IPU Vice-President from Azerbaijan, MP Sevil Mikayilova is also
taking part in the event.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) kicked off in Baku
on November 11.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, established at
the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent
dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP, which
stands for Conference of the Parties, is the convention's highest
decision-making body, tasked with overseeing its
implementation.
The convention includes 198 member states. COP meetings are
typically held annually unless otherwise decided. The first COP
meeting was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is
based in Bonn, Germany.
