Clashes between Sudanese army, RSF intensify across various combat fronts

(MENAFN) On Thursday, clashes intensified between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces across various combat fronts, resulting in civilian casualties. Fighting resumed early in the morning in the strategic Al-Muqran area of Khartoum, with reports of violent clashes. Fighter jets targeted positions held by the Rapid Support Forces near the Republican Palace, escalating the conflict in the capital.

Additionally, the Rapid Support Forces launched artillery shelling from positions south and east of Khartoum, targeting army positions in Bahri and Omdurman. Clashes also continued in neighborhoods surrounding the armored corps, with the sounds of light and medium weapons echoing amid rising columns of smoke. The intensity of the fighting underscores the ongoing volatility in the region.

In a series of air raids, the Sudanese Air Force targeted areas including Al-Ezba, Shambat, and Al-Ma'una in central Bahri, leading to civilian casualties. Drones also struck Rapid Support Forces positions near the sports city, with reports of clashes occurring around the Signal Corps in Bahri, further exacerbating the conflict's toll on civilians.

Meanwhile, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, expressed concern over a worsening displacement crisis in Sudan, urging for increased support for refugees fleeing the ongoing civil war. In parallel, the Sudanese Ministry of Health reported a rise in cholera deaths, now totaling 700, along with nine fatalities from dengue fever. The ministry noted 82 new cholera cases, raising the overall count to 24,604, while indicating a decline in infections in several states, although some areas, like Al-Jazeera, Sennar, and White Nile, saw an uptick in cases.
