BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. Discussions on
“Mission Roadmap 1.5: High-Level Dialogue of the Troika of the COP
Presidency (UAE, Azerbaijan, and Brazil) have started in Baku
within the framework of Pre-COP, Trend reports.
The statement of the Troika noted that the event will share
experiences, best practices, and opportunities to enhance
international cooperation to ensure the realization of ambitious
climate goals, as well as develop policies in the context of
updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to maintain
1.5°C temperature and global sustainability.
The Troika statement recalls that the outcome of the first
Global Stocktake (GST) and the broader climate change consensus
reached in the UAE provides a comprehensive roadmap for
international cooperation towards accelerating and scaling up
climate action across all actors in society, sectors, and
regions.
“Within the framework of the GST outcome, the parties reaffirmed
their commitment to multilateralism in light of the progress made
under the Paris Agreement and resolved to remain united in the
pursuit of the long-term goal of the Agreement. The parties also
recognized the importance of international cooperation, including
cross-border cooperation, to address climate change in the context
of sustainable development and poverty eradication,” the statement
noted.
“In the context of its mandate, Mission Roadmap 1.5, the COP's
Troika of Presidents remains focused on its goal to significantly
increase international cooperation and create an international
enabling environment to catalyze ambition in the next NDC round.
The COP Presidents' Troika has held a series of high-level policy
meetings throughout 2024 to catalyze ambition in the next NDC round
by assessing key obstacles and identifying opportunities to
catalyze efforts that support implementation.
As the global community prepares for the next round of
nationally determined contributions, enhancing international
cooperation is critical to catalyze ambition and ensure effective
climate action.
