Azerbaijan To Discuss University Network Setup On Climate Change Issues At COP29

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 3. Azerbaijan plans to discuss the setup of the nationwide university Network on climate change in more detail at COP29, COP29 Presidency Youth Climate Champion Leyla Hasanova said, Trend reports.

She made the remark during an event "Role of higher education in climate change: Towards an Azerbaijan University Network on Climate Change (AUNCC)" at the ADA University today.

"The Azerbaijani University Network on Climate Change will emphasize the importance of higher education in skill development and the improvement of the educational system. The network will enhance collaboration across universities and educational institutions and facilitate capacity building through augmented interaction between established and emerging programs.

This will enable better analysis of the specific challenges Azerbaijan faces and foster the search for innovative solutions necessary to overcome them by enhancing coherence and collaboration among institutions," Hasanova noted.

She mentioned that COP29 will be a golden opportunity to rub elbows with key stakeholders and lay the groundwork for the successful rollout of the network.

According to her, youth and education have become an integral part of the Baku Climate Action Week and will be the focus of discussions at COP29.

This November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will receive about 70–80,000 foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. COP-the Conference of the Parties-is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Germany's Berlin with its secretariat in Bonn.
