Kazakhstan Tallies International Observers For Country's NPP Referendum


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 1. The referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will be observed by 177 representatives from 30 countries, the secretary of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Yerman said at a meeting of the commission, Trend reports.

“Among them are representatives of four international organizations, such as the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Organization of Turkic States, and the conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia,” he said.

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the country will hold a referendum in connection with the construction of a nuclear power plant on September 1, 2023.

Following this, Kazakhstan presented a list of companies that are bidding to supply technology for the country's first nuclear power plant. These are Chinese CNNC with HPR-1000 reactor, South Korean KHNP with APR-1400 reactor, French EDF with EPR-1200 reactor, as well as Russian Rosatom with VVER-1200 and VVER-1000 reactors.
