Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan Intend Scaling Up Co-Op In Gas Sector


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, September 11. Kazakhstan and Turkmengas of Turkmenistan have signed a memorandum of intent to strengthen cooperation between the countries in the gas sector, the Ministry of energy of Kazakhstan told Trend .

The document was signed during a meeting between the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev and the State Minister of Turkmenistan, Chairman of the state concern "Turkmengas" Maksat Babayev.

At the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation between the countries in the gas sector and the possibility of participating in joint projects.

Satkaliev pointed out that by joining forces, the countries can raise the bar on mutually beneficial cooperation to a whole new ballgame of strategic partnership.

Meanwhile, the volume of trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan amounted to $237.2 million from January through June 2024. The volume of trade turnover decreased by 2.5 percent compared to the same period in 2023 ($243.3 million).

At the same time, exports to Turkmenistan for the above period amounted to $136.6 million, which is 24.7 percent less than the first half of 2023 ($181.5 million). In addition, imports from Turkmenistan from January through June 2024 increased by 62.7 percent and amounted to $100.5 million. From January through June 2023, imports amounted to $61.8 million.
