US assigns USD374M for airport upgrades, improvements

(MENAFN) On Friday, the Biden administration announced a substantial allocation of over USD374 million in grants aimed at improving airports across the United States. According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), these funds are designated for a variety of projects, including upgrades to airfields, safety enhancements, and other infrastructure improvements. The grants will benefit 299 airports spread across 46 states and American Samoa, marking a significant investment in the nation’s aviation sector.

Among the airports receiving the most substantial funding, Boston Logan International Airport in Massachusetts is set to receive USD15.5 million, the largest individual grant in this round. Driggs/Reed Memorial Airport in Idaho will receive USD10.4 million, and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport in Kentucky is allocated USD10 million. These grants reflect a strategic effort to address critical needs at key aviation hubs and support their ongoing development.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg underscored the administration's commitment to modernizing the nation's aviation infrastructure. He stated that the funding being announced will allow hundreds of airports to make essential improvements, which are expected to enhance passenger safety and efficiency for years to come. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that U.S. airports remain robust and capable of meeting future demands.

The FAA highlighted that these grants are part of the Airport Improvement Program, which is allocated approximately USD3.3 billion annually. This consistent and substantial funding demonstrates the administration's dedication to advancing the safety, resilience, and overall functionality of U.S. airports, ensuring they are well-equipped to support both current and future aviation needs.
