Record-Breaking Tourist Arrivals In Rio De Janeiro For The First Half Of 2024


(MENAFN- The Rio Times) Rio de Janeiro experienced a remarkable tourism surge in the first half of 2024, with 760,200 international visitors.

This 19.89% increase from last year marks the city's second-highest figures, only behind the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

South American tourists led this influx, comprising 58.75% of total arrivals. Notably, 446,676 travelers came predominantly from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, and Peru.

Europeans and North Americans followed, contributing significantly to the diversity of the city's tourist population.

The Carnival season in February, renowned for its vibrant festivities, peaked with 170,305 visitors.



This marked an increase from previous records, demonstrating the festival's global draw and cultural significance.

Further bolstering this uptick, an increase in international flights to Brazil played a crucial role.

And lets not forget the unprecedented 1.6 million people that gathered to witness Madonn close out her global“The Celebration Tour" in May.

This event not only marked her largest audience ever but also her most memorable return to Brazil after a twelve-year hiatus.

Air arrivals in Rio jumped by 22.99% to 717,107 in 2024, underscoring effective strategic expansions in global air routes.

Throughout Brazil, the trend continued with a total of 3,597,239 international arrivals in the first six months, an increase from both 2023 and pre-pandemic years.

This indicates a robust recovery and growing global interest in Brazil's diverse attractions.

Travel modes varied, with the majority arriving by air, followed by land, sea, and river routes, showcasing Brazil's extensive and accessible transportation network.
