Afghanistan And Uzbekistan Agree To Establish A Joint Trade Chamber

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Nooruddin Azizi, Acting Minister of industry and Commerce of the Taliban administration, has agreed with Jamshid Khojayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, to establish a“Trade chamber” between the two countries.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated in the Wednesday, July 4th newsletter that discussions during these meetings covered trade, transit issues, the Afghanistan railway, and cooperation on electricity transmission from Surkhan to Pul-e-Khumri.

Azizi led a delegation on Tuesday, July 3rd, to expand relations and participate in an exhibition of Afghanistan domestic products in Uzbekistan.

This three-day exhibition in Tashkent involved 250 traders from Afghanistan.

According to the ministry's newsletter, Mr. Azizi and his delegation held discussions with Jamshid Khojayev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, in the presence of Uzbekistan's Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Minister of Energy, Minister of Transport, Minister of Industry and Mining, Water Resources Minister, Customs officials, and Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan.

Uzbekistan is among Afghanistan's neighboring countries that have had close political and trade relations with the Taliban over the past two years. However, since the group took power in the country, no states have recognized the Taliban government in Afghanistan.

According to Afghanistan's Ministry of Industry and Commerce statistics, in 2023, Afghanistan imported goods worth $239 million from Uzbekistan and exported goods valued at $27 million to the country.
