Trade between Iran, Tajikistan surges fivefold since August 2021

(MENAFN) Iran's Minister of Energy, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, announced significant growth in trade between Iran and Tajikistan since August 2021, coinciding with the start of President Ebrahim Raisi's administration. Mehrabian pointed out that trade with regional countries, including Tajikistan, has surged fivefold during this period.
These remarks were made during a meeting with Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, at the offshoots of the 4th meeting of energy ministers from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states. Mehrabian highlighted the active involvement of Iranian companies in advancing construction projects like the Rogun Dam in Tajikistan. He pointed out that Iranian firms, which are renowned for their technical expertise and skilled workforce, are well-positioned to lead various hydroelectric projects in Tajikistan and contribute significantly to its development.
In response, Minister Daler Juma emphasized Tajikistan's commitment to expanding bilateral relations with Iran across all sectors. He expressed readiness to support and facilitate Iranian companies engaged in development projects within Tajikistan, underscoring mutual interests in strengthening economic cooperation and collaboration between the two nations.
The discussions underscored the potential for enhanced economic ties between Iran and Tajikistan, driven by increased trade volumes as well as collaborative development efforts in key infrastructure projects.
