SCO energy ministers urge heightened cooperation across energy sectors

(MENAFN) The 4th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) energy ministers' meeting convened in Astana, Kazakhstan, reaffirmed the collective commitment to bolster cooperation in energy production, transmission, and consumption among member states. Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian participated in the international gathering, highlighting significant developments and agreements reached during the event.

Mehrabian noted that a pivotal cooperation document was signed during the meeting, emphasizing its uniqueness given the diverse energy profiles within the SCO. Some member states are prominent energy producers, while others are major consumers. The document encompasses strategies for hydrocarbon energy, electricity, renewable energy, and nuclear energy production and management.

Iran, renowned for its substantial hydrocarbon reserves, holds a pivotal role in regional energy dynamics and within the SCO framework, particularly in electricity generation. Mehrabian underscored Iran's proactive steps in advancing renewable energy initiatives, highlighting ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources and enhance sustainability.

The SCO, headquartered in China, serves as a crucial platform for fostering multilateral cooperation across Eurasia, promoting security, economic collaboration, and political stability. Iran's full-fledged membership in the SCO underscores its strategic importance within the world's largest regional organization by geographic span and population, reinforcing its role in shaping regional energy policies and initiatives.

The outcomes of the SCO energy ministers' meeting signal a concerted effort to harness collective strengths and expertise in energy management, paving the way for sustainable development and mutual benefit among member states.
