Iranian energy minister offers expanded cooperation at SCO meeting in Kazakhstan

(MENAFN) During the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting hosted in Kazakhstan, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian articulated Iran's readiness to offer extensive technical and engineering services, as well as supply equipment within the energy sector. Mehrabian highlighted the strategic advantage of linking Uzbekistan's electricity grid with Turkmenistan's and subsequently with Iran's, facilitating efficient electricity exchange across the region, particularly crucial during peak consumption periods in both summer and winter.

On Thursday, during a sideline meeting at the fourth gathering of SCO energy ministers, Mehrabian engaged in discussions with Mahmoud Jurabek, Uzbekistan's Minister of Energy. Expressing gratitude for Uzbekistan's president for his efforts in bilateral energy cooperation, Mehrabian reiterated Iran's commitment to deepening collaboration between the two nations. He emphasized Iran's preparedness to expand cooperation significantly, particularly through the export of technical expertise and the provision of essential equipment in the energy sector to Uzbekistan. This initiative aims to strengthen bilateral ties comprehensively and foster mutual economic development.

The dialogue underscored Iran's proactive approach within the SCO, advocating for enhanced regional energy integration and cooperation. By proposing concrete measures to bolster infrastructure and economic ties, Iran seeks to play a pivotal role in promoting stability and sustainable growth across the SCO member states, aligning with broader strategic objectives of regional cooperation and development.
