Astana Ready For Further Co-Op With Baku, Tashkent To Export Green Energy To Europe - Minister


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 1. The Ministry ofEnergy of Kazakhstan is completely ready for further full-fledgedcooperation with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan for the export of greenenergy to Europe, Kazakh Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyevsaid following the signing of a memorandum of cooperation on theintegration of the three countries' energy systems, Trend reports.

"To date, the basic approaches to implementing this project havebeen discussed and agreed upon," the minister explained.

According to him, earlier, a draft feasibility study for layinga submarine cable along the bottom of the Caspian Sea wasformed.

"The feasibility study entails the workout of a proposedbusiness model for the development of international transmissioncorridors (financing, revenue flow, and ownership) and for the saleof green energy to European Union countries. Based on the above, adraft memorandum of cooperation on the interconnection of theenergy systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan wasdeveloped between the ministries of energy of the three countries,"the minister added.

Today, the ministers of energy of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, andUzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation on theinterconnection of the energy systems of the countries within theframework of the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

The aim of the signed memorandum is to define the basicconditions of cooperation within the implementation of the projectfor the interconnection of the energy systems of Azerbaijan,Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.

The document envisages the participants' intention to exploreopportunities for connecting energy systems by laying high-voltagecables along the bottom of the Caspian Sea and in the territoriesof other countries, implementing the most optimal trade in greenenergy from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan both technicallyand economically.
