Turkish-Russian Monitoring Center In Azerbaijan Contributed To Regional Peace - Mod


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26. The jointTurkish-Russian monitoring center in Azerbaijan contributed toregional stability, peace, and confidence for over three years, thespokesperson for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense Anar Eyvazovtold Trend .

He pointed out that the monitoring center involving Turkish andRussian military personnel alongside Azerbaijani servicemen hasmade its contribution through their joint activities.

"After the successful local anti-terror measures conducted bythe Armed Forces of Azerbaijan in September 2023, the remnants ofthe Armenian Armed Forces and Armenian illegal armed formations onAzerbaijani territory were withdrawn, and Azerbaijan establishedfull control over the Karabakh economic region. With this, theactivities of the joint Turkish-Russian monitoring center haveconcluded," he added.

To note, the joint monitoring center was established on January30, 2021, in order to monitor the ceasefire in Karabakh and preventviolations in accordance with the memorandum signed between Türkiyeand Russia.

As a result of local anti-terror measures carried out by theAzerbaijani Armed Forces in Karabakh on September 19–20, 2023,Azerbaijan restored its sovereignty throughout the country. Sincethe Russian peacekeeping contingent began to leave the Karabakhregion a few days ago, the need for the activities of this centerhas disappeared.

Additionally, on April 18, the Turkish Ministry of NationalDefense announced the cessation of the center's activity.
