Azerbaijan Accedes To Global Sustainable Tourism Council (PHOTO)


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. The State TourismAgency of Azerbaijan has been accepted as a member of the GlobalSustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), Trend reports.

The decision was made at the GSTC2024 Sweden Global SustainableTourism Conference.

A memorandum of understanding between the Azerbaijan TourismBoard and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council was also signed atthe conference.

The MoU envisages supporting the growth of sustainable tourism,the national implementation of the Council's standards, and otherrelated efforts.

During the event, Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the AzerbaijanTourism Board, emphasized that joining the Council will facilitatecollaborative efforts with local partners in the tourism sector,enhance Azerbaijan's influence in driving sustainable andsubstantial changes within the global tourism industry, and promotesustainable growth of the local tourism sector through marketinginitiatives.

Established in 2007, the Global Sustainable Tourism Council wasformed to create the Global Criteria for Sustainable Tourism, acollaborative endeavor involving the Rainforest Alliance, the UNEnvironment Programme, the Population Fund, and the UN WorldTourism Organization.
