Serbia Closely Monitoring EU-Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor Initiative


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 29. Serbia isclosely monitoring all initiatives that can contribute to improvedmarket coupling and greater energy security in the region, such asthe agreement signed last year by Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania andHungary regarding the supply of green energy to the EU through anew underwater cable under the Black Sea, , a source at theMinistry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia toldTrend .

"The inclusion of cooperation in the field of green energy alsoopens up new opportunities for cooperation in the process oftransition to green energy, involving investments in RES and thedevelopment of energy infrastructure. Serbia shares the vision ofthe European Union to achieve carbon neutrality. Through thedevelopment of strategic documents and the improvement of thelegislative framework, we are working to create conditions for theconstruction of new energy capacities from RES, which willsignificantly contribute to our energy independence and energysecurity in the future," noted the source.

The source pointed out that Serbia is also exploring variousoptions for ensuring sufficient baseload energy, including thepossibility of constructing power plants that use gas as atransitional energy source.

"In addition to investments in new production capacities andinvestments in increasing energy efficiency, a top priority is theconstruction of transmission systems towards neighboring countriesthrough projects such as the Trans-Balkan Corridor, which iscrucial for enhancing the security of supply, integrating new REScapacities, and developing the electricity market in theregion."
