Total Energies to continue output at Denmark's Tyra natural gas field in March

(MENAFN) On Monday, Total Energies revealed its plans to recommence production at the Tyra natural gas field in Denmark by the end of March this year. The Tyra field, Denmark's largest gas field, underwent temporary closure in 2019 for redevelopment. The anticipated restart date is set for March 31, with the company indicating that the actual commencement may vary depending on project progress. The redevelopment process involved the removal and recycling of outdated facilities, as well as the installation of new infrastructure, including the legs of offshore platforms.

Total Energies explained that the redeveloped Tyra field is expected to achieve its full technical capacity within four months from the restart date. The Taira 2 field, also known as Taira, is poised to produce an annual volume of 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas. Prior to its temporary closure, Tyra played a pivotal role as a gas processing and export hub in the North Sea, handling over 90 percent of the gas produced in the Danish sector.

Operating on behalf of the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC), in which it holds a 43.2 percent interest, Total Energies has spearheaded the comprehensive redevelopment initiative, encompassing the replacement of outdated facilities and the integration of new components. The impending resumption of production marks a significant milestone in revitalizing Tyra's role in the energy landscape, contributing to the overall gas production and export capabilities of the Danish sector in the North Sea.
