Bird Hunting Season To Begin On September 1

Doha, Qatar: Minister of Environment and Climate Change Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Ali Al Thani issued the ministerial decision No. 24 for 2023 regulating the hunting season for certain birds and wild animals.

In its first article, the decision stipulates that the season for hunting for migratory birds (Turtle Dove) will be from September 1, 2023 to February 15, 2024 for a period of two years starting from the date of implementation of this decision for the following species: Asian Bustard, Eurasian stone-curlew (thick-knee), Mallard / wilde duck, Blue Rock-thrush, Song Thrush, Eurasian Golden Oriole, crested lark, Isabelline Wheatear, Desert Wheatear, and Northern Wheatear.

The second article of the decision stipulates the obligation of those who hunt to: hunt Asian Bustard birds by falcons only, not to use or exchange non-traditional hunting tools and means, especially electrical machines that emit sounds similar to the sounds of birds (calling devices), and not to be exposed while hunting to bird eggs, disturbing their nests, and not harming meadows and wild plants.

The second article also included specifying the hunting period from sunrise to sunset. Trading the hunted birds listed in the decision is prohibited. P3

Hunting of all kinds is also prohibited in nature reserves and islands, and within the boundaries of cities, villages, public parks, and within at least 500 meters range from public roads, as well as inside private property and farms, except with the permission from the owners and rights holders.

In its third article, the decision stipulates that it is prohibited to hunt or acquire any of the local, endemic, and other migratory wild animals, birds, and reptiles in all regions of the country throughout the year, for a period of two years starting from the date of the implementation of this decision.

Article four of the decision stipulates that whoever violates the provisions of this decision shall be punished with the penalty stipulated in Law No. 4 of 2002.
