(MENAFN) A mountain guide discovered the corpse of a man alleged to have died over 20 years ago on a glacier in Austria, police department stated on Tuesday.
The guide found the body on Friday on East Tyrol’s Schlatenkees glacier at a height of nearly 2,900 meters (9,500 feet) and informed the police, who recovered it with a helicopter.
Police also mentioned that the man is assumed to have had an incident on the glacier 22 years ago and was touring with ski exploring tools.
Money, a bank card as well as a driver’s license were discovered inside a near backpack that goes back to the dead man, whom police cautiously recognized as a 37-year-old Austrian. DNA outcomes are going to offer an exact recognition and are going to be presented in a few weeks, police also stated.
As glaciers melt down because of climate change, items and bodies once assumed lost are shown, glaciologist Lindsey Nicholson at the University of Innsbruck informed a US-based news agency in July following the remnants of a German mountain hiker who was lost 37 years ago were found in Switzerland.
