Efforts to resurrect JCPOA become hot subject in Iran, US media.

(MENAFN) The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was inked 8 years ago. The United States, nevertheless, withdrew from the global pact in 2018.

Donald Trump withdrew the United States from the nuclear agreement, casting doubt on the 12-year-long attempt to address the Iran nuclear issue. As a result, the efforts to resurrect the JCPOA have become a hot subject in Iran and the US media.

On June 30, Fox News, a Republican-affiliated media site, released a report describing the Biden government's desire for a short-term and unofficial arrangement with Iran over the JCPOA. Despite the administration's public rejection of negotiations, evidence shows that they may take place behind closed doors.

The urgency of freeing American captives was emphasized by Behnam Ben Taleblu, a Senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD). He stressed that the US may use USD7 billion in frozen cash held in escrow in South Korea under US sanctions legislation as a negotiating tool in exchange for the release of American individuals.

This followed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's comment that "there’s currently no nuclear deal in the offing."
