Erdogan promises to continue efforts on restarting Black Sea Grain deal

(MENAFN) Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured his Russian counterpart on Wednesday that Turkey is continuing to make "intense" efforts and diplomacy to restart the Black Sea grain agreement.

They further settled on Russian Leader Vladimir Putin's trip to Turkey during a phone chat, according to an announcement from Turkey's Communications Directorate.

Erdogan emphasized the significance of the Black Sea grain trade, which he sees as a "bridge of peace," and said that in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, moves that may raise tensions should be avoided.

Erdogan stated that the lasting suspension of the Black Sea Initiative is going to help no one, including low-income nations in need of grain.

According to the declaration, he underlined that grain prices, that fell by 23 percent in the deal's implementation phase, had risen by 15 percent in the previous two weeks.

On July 17, Russia terminated its participation in the agreement made last July with Turkey, the United Nations, and Ukraine to resume grain shipments from three Ukrainian Black Sea ports that had been halted since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in February. However, even when the deal was renewed in prior months, Moscow protested that the Russian portion of the accord was not being followed.
