(MENAFN- M. Sliwa Public Relations) WASHINGTON — The East Turkistan government in Exile (ETGE) and the East Turkistan National Movement (ETNM) will be holding a demonstration this Friday at the U.S. White House, commemorating the 9th anniversary of the Yarkand Massacre and demanding urgent intervention to halt China’s ongoing Uyghur genocide in East Turkistan.
The Uyghur diaspora residing in the Washington D.C. area and their supporters will gather to honor the victims and raise international awareness about China's ongoing state-led genocide.
The demonstration aims to send a strong message to the Biden Administration: human rights norms must be upheld and enforced. Urgent and decisive action against China's genocidal campaign is critical.
The East Turkistan Government in Exile appeals to the United States not to compromise the rights of Uyghurs in exchange for political or strategic gain, responding to recent reports that the administration is considering lifting Uyghur-related sanctions in return for China's cooperation on counter-narcotics operations.

BACKGROUND
On July 28, 2014, amidst China's commencement of the so-called "People's War" in East Turkistan, over 2,000 Uyghurs were mercilessly killed by Chinese security forces in Yarkand County of East Turkistan. This marked one of the most devastating massacres in modern Uyghur history.
The U.S.Congress and government have agreed, and so too have over a dozen parliaments, including those of Canada, the Netherlands, France, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom, that the crimes committed against the Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in East Turkistan constitute genocide, according to the definition in the 1948 UN Genocide Convention.
Despite official recognition of China’s ongoing genocide in East Turkistan, the passage of the Uyghur Policy Act, the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, and the imposition of some sanctions against Chinese officials, China’s genocide in East Turkistan continues in 2023.
