Biden objects to UK Defense Secretary`s candidacy for NATO leadership
(MENAFN) A news agency has stated that the United States Leader Joe Biden protested to United Kingdom Defense Secretary Ben Wallace’s candidature for NATO leadership, probably because he served as a British fighter in Northern Ireland throughout the time span of sectional violence known as ‘The Troubles’.
Wallace was between the leading runners to substitute Jens Stoltenberg as NATO Secretary General when the Norwegian’s term concludes later this year. However, Wallace, who was selected as the United Kingdom’s defense head by ex-PM Boris Johnson in 2019, pulled out from the running the previous month.
In line with unknown outlets quoted by a news agency on Sunday, Biden’s reluctance regarding his authorizations – specially as it relates to Northern Ireland – were significant to Wallace’s choice to not stand in the NATO leadership competition.
“Biden wears his southern Irish roots on his sleeve and he will be well aware Ben served in the British Army during The Troubles,” the newspaper cited an unknown outlet close to Wallace as stating.
