Qatar, Italy To Further Bolster Bilateral Ties

Doha: Qatar and Italy enjoy strong bilateral relations that have been growing over the years. There are several opportunities between both countries which span across various fields, said an official.

Speaking to The Peninsula, Palma Libotte, Founder and President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar said,“Italy has a very fortunate history of bilateral relations with Qatar that we have for more than 30 years now. We specialise in many sectors like luxury goods, fashion, jewelry, heavy machinery industry, architecture, interiors which are our major strengths. We also have deals in energy and defence sector.”

“When it comes to Qatar it is on the top of our agenda to maintain the strong relationship that we have built throughout these years. Italians are always ready to come and work here and we get along with the local entrepreneur very much as we have a similar history like family run enterprises. We understand each other and are able to work in a team and solve problems,” she added.

On the Chamber's side it is an honour to lead this Chamber which I founded 15 years ago and now“we have a leading role in Qatar's business community because we have been here for long. We try to integrate with other business leaders with many networking events which are very important to connect and share information on new projects, goals and directions that Qatar is going.”

Libotte noted that Qatar is moving so fast, therefore the information is key to have any successful entrepreneurial adventure in this country.

Italy is an important partner for Qatar as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries has witnessed remarkable development in recent years and the economic partnership between the two parties has grown over the past ten years by more than 320 percent.

The relations between the two countries have been solid and that has resulted in bilateral trade reaching nearly €8bn in 2022 recording a growth of 54.4 percent.

Speaking about upcoming events, Libotte said“we have a couple of delegations coming especially with Project Qatar, it will be a good presence of entrepreneurs coming to the country.”

Regarding FIFA World Cup 2022, she noted that successful hosting of the World Cup has helped to ensure that it remains a memorable event for many years.

The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Qatar is a reliable ally for Italian and Qatari companies. It plays an active role in the organisation of business networking events with the presence of local authorities, Qatari businessmen, and international managers, to favour relations with Italian companies.
