Amman, May 21 (Petra) -- Jordan's weather is set to undergo a series of changes over the next few days, with shifting conditions throughout the country, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).
In its forecast for Sunday, the weather department indicated that most parts of the Kingdom will have moderate weather, while hotter temperatures are anticipated in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Clouds will be visible at various heights, and northwesterly moderate winds will occasionally pick up, particularly in the Badia.
However, a Khamasini depression is predicted to affect Jordan on Monday, resulting in a significant spike in temperatures. These elevated temperatures are expected to align with the general rates for this time of year. Alongside the rise in temperatures, the weather will turn dry, dusty, and considerably hot in most regions, while winds will be southerly to southwesterly, with strong gusts reaching up to 50 km/h.
The Khamasini depression is a meteorological phenomenon characterized by the intrusion of hot and dry winds originating from the vast desert regions, most notably the Arabian Desert. It typically results in a significant rise in temperatures with dusty conditions. The term "Khamasini" refers to the number fifty in Arabic, reflecting the historical occurrence of this weather pattern during the fifty days following the spring equinox.
As Tuesday approaches, there will be a slight drop in temperatures compared to Monday. The weather will still be fairly hot in most areas, with relatively hotter conditions prevailing in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Clouds will appear at medium and high elevations, accompanied by moderate northwesterly winds.
On Wednesday, it is expected that mercury levels will rise again. As a result, the weather will be moderately hot in most areas but sweltering in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
Today's peak temperatures will be between 25 and 23 degrees Celsius in Amman and various highlands throughout the Kingdom, with lows of 19 or even 17 degrees in the southern highlands at night. The Gulf city of Aqaba will have warmer weather, with highs of 36C and lows of 27C.
