(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, May 16 (KUNA) -- The European Union (EU) said on Tuesday that it was continuing to support the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Sudan.
This week, a new flight delivered 30.3 tons of essential material, including medical and shelter supplies, which were transported from UN warehouses in Dubai to partners in port Sudan. The flight follows another airlift flight to Sudan on May ninth, said an EU press release.
In addition to the Humanitarian Air Bridge flights, the EU has allocated a total of 800,000 euro (USD 869,000) for immediate aid and first aid to people in Sudan itself, as well as refugees and returnees in neighboring countries. This funding includes 200,000 (USD 217,000) for the Sudanese Red Crescent and 200,000 euro for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies of Egypt, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
EU humanitarian aid experts were rapidly deployed along the border regions in countries bordering Sudan (Ethiopia, South Sudan, Chad, Egypt and Central African Republic), to quickly assess emerging humanitarian needs in the field, added the press release. (end)
